Welcome to the Official Eden Chopper
EDEN CHOPPER CLASS PAST /PRESENT AND FUTURE
Lately the questions keep coming in bunches regarding the Chopper Class/Club so I
thought it would be a good time to discuss our history, present day and where I hope
the evolution of this program will take us in the future. The mission of the Chopper
Club/Class has remained constant since it’s beginning in late 2006 “ Teach Eden Centrals
students about the process of Real-World Engineering/Problem Solving and Fabrication
using American Made V-twins as our main instruction tool. The key main constants
from day one have been the incredibly dedicated Students and Sponsors, and an Administration
and group of parents who sees the big picture and is truly committed to helping
kids learn using non-traditional approaches. The program operates in two main environments
the first is a high school level class I teach called the World Of Technology. Problem
is only kids in grades 10-12 can take the class. That’s where the Technology Club
comes into play. All students in grades 7-12 are eligible to be members of Eden’s
Technology Club. We refer to both entities together as Eden Chopper Class/Club. Although
the environments vary slightly for each group all of the students focus their energies
on the same build. Funds and parts for what we do come from multiple sources but
any fundraising we do as a group must be conducted and overseen by the Technology
Club. The bulk of what we need to keep this program happening comes directly from
our multiple sponsors. They come through when needed in so many capacities it is
incredible. Some donate parts, some the use of a banquet hall, others simply make
monitary contributions regardless of how they help, myself and the students are overwhelmed
each and every year by the selfless generosity they display. The kids are glue. They
run this machine. The direction of each build is set by the students and I help them
navigate to that destination. Hard work and a team approach are key guiding principles
for the Chopper Class/Club. Where the future will take the program time will tell
but if enrolment and group dedication by all parties involved provide any indication,
there will be many more student builders in the future. Thanks to everyone who has
been involved in any capacity. I am humbled and feel very fortunate to be involved
with such an amazing group of people. Build number five has begun so lets get busy
and make it happen. Enjoy the Fall riding season.
